Eric Wright begins work on £4m Wigan health centre

Eric Wright has started construction on a 12,000 sq ft health centre in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan, featuring two GP practices and community amenities.

Designed by Gilling Dod Architects, the scheme secured planning in 2017 and sits opposite St Oswald’s Primary School. Eric Wright’s healthcare division purchased the site in 2015.

The facility has space for two GP practices and a medical centre on the first floor, with the ground floor set aside for community services including integrated health and social care. There is also space for meeting and community groups on the ground floor, and other facilities included in the build are an ambulance standby point.

Work has now commenced on site with the project due to hand over next summer.

Wayne Ashton, head of strategic planning at Eric Wright Health & Care said: “Over the course of our involvement in the project, we have worked closely with the Council, the NHS, the school and the local community, to create a building which is integrated into its surroundings. When finished, the centre will provide the community with exceptional facilities to support their health and wellbeing.

“With work already underway, we are working towards a completion date of summer next year.”
