ECF submits Chapel Street resi plans
English Cities Fund has submitted plans for the first phase of buildings in the Chapel Street regeneration project, apartments designed by Glenn Howells Architects.
ECF has outline planning consent already but has submitted a detailed reserved matters application for Plot E3. Pending planning, there will be a block of six storeys fronting onto Chapel Street falling to three storeys facing Barrow Street.
Fifty three local residents, workers and business owners attended public consultation meetings to hear about and share their views on the proposals.
ECF is a joint venture between Muse Developments, lead delivery partner, Homes & Communities Agency, and Legal & General.
Phil Mayall, development director of Muse and ECf, said: "The submission of this planning application marks a significant point in bringing new development to Chapel Street. It shows that the scheme is gathering pace and residents will soon start to see physical improvements in the area."
The façade and roof of the Bell Tower building will be retained and refurbished.
The wider development, called Salford Central, is a major 44-acre regeneration scheme set to contain a mixture of uses.
Reverend Andy Salmon, a resident and chairman of Salford Central Regeneration Forum, said: "We're really pleased with the plans and look forward to the new properties being built. The reaction has been positive and the changes for Salford are warmly welcomed."
