Countryside closes 22-acre Oldham land deal  

Construction of 365 homes in Fitton Hill can now begin, 12 months after the developer won planning consent for the project. 

Countryside Partnerships has completed the acquisition of a 22-acre site in Oldham from a private landowner, paving the way for the £82m redevelopment to begin. 

The deal sees the developer take control of two sites; an 18-acre plot off Hill Farm Close and a four-acre plot off Rosary Road south of Oldham town centre. 

The sites were previously occupied by schools and a housing estate.  

Countryside is working in partnership with Great Places Housing Group and Sigma Capital, to bring the project forward. 

The developer will deliver 187 houses for sale on the open market, while Sigma will develop 97 rental homes under its Simple Life brand. 

Great Places will operate the project’s 81 affordable houses. 

The project team for the development includes E3p, Redmore Environmental, CBO Transport, ELLUC, and Urban Green. 

Joe Turner, managing director for Manchester and Cheshire East at Countryside, said: “The purchase of this land is the final piece of the jigsaw to get this exciting development underway. 

This development will make a significant contribution to Oldham’s available housing supply, creating a high-quality, energy-efficient mixed housing offer in an area where investment is much needed.”

Will there be more doctors, more shops or better bus services to cope with all the extra people because at the moment it’s hard to get doctors appointments and the bus service is hit and miss with buses not turning up

They will need to improve the shocking 426 bus service with all these extra homes around. 30 minute schedule (if it actually shows up) reduced to one hour in the evening and Sunday/Bank Holidays. Time First Manchester and TFGM got this sorted!

Brilliant. More congestion, more overcrowding, greater strain on resources & less green space. Just what we all need! And then.. when air quality gets worse drivers will be charged up to £60 per day “clean air tax”..which will increase cost of living for everyone. Wonderful.

If I lived in Oldham I’d welcome this news with open arms. Brand new houses for sale, rent it affordable. New people coming in only ever acts as a catylyst for better local facilities including health and education. And bars and restaurants. Development and investment is good. services will only improve with increased demand.
