Conwy care home to be demolished, rebuilt, and expanded
Rosewood Healthcare Group has pitched a replacement three-storey block with 50 en-suite bedrooms, a ground floor kitchen, a staff room, and amenity areas to the local authority.
Proposals to be considered by Conwy County Council seek to demolish the existing care home building and replace it with a purpose-built, larger facility on the same half-acre plot at 13-17 Kenelm Road in Rhos-on-Sea.
The former Priory Grange Nursing Home, which closed its doors in August 2018 due to financial stressors, hosted 29 residents and employed 14 staff members.
Once complete, the replacement care home will employ up to 35 staff, under the operator Rosewood Healthcare Group.
Leeds-based Loroc Architects has designed the 50-bed replacement care home on behalf of Rosewood. ELG Planning is advising the applicant.
A total of nine parking spaces would be added, and a landscaped private garden would be found at the rear.
Plans had been submitted in March 2021 to demolish the old care home and use the site for eight properties. This plan was rejected by councillors who declared such a development would be “injurious to the prevailing character of the area”.
The project team includes landscape architects ROOT3, ARP Associates, CollingtonWinter, Welsh Water, and Dice.
