Clayton-le-Moors leisure centre gets govt green light
Construction of the £12m facility is due to begin early next year after the secretary of state decided not to call in Hyndburn Council’s decision to approve the scheme.
Clayton-le-Moors’ new leisure centre, which is being delivered in partnership with Sports England, will feature a four-lane, 25-metre swimming pool, a fitness suite, a sauna and steam room, a group exercise studio, and a café.
Designed by Pozzoni Architecture, the facility would be constructed on Wilson’s Playing Fields off Clayton Hall Drive.
Cllr Marlene Haworth, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, said: “The development of the new leisure and sports centre is part of our ongoing commitment to provide everyone in our community with the leisure and social opportunities they need to prosper.
“The modern building will complement the existing outdoor sports facilities creating opportunities for the whole community to enjoy a wide variety of activities both as participants and as spectators. This investment will provide a community facility that drives health and happiness for many years to come.”
Hyndburn’s planning committee approved the scheme in September, with the application passing narrowly by six votes to five.
The council estimates the facility could complete by spring 2025.
