Cheshire to consent 76,000 sq ft inhaler expansion

Bespak wants to build a two-storey facility on five acres next to its existing headquarters in Holmes Chapel to support its growth and net zero aspirations.

Bespak, which specialises in inhaled and nasal drug delivery products such as sprays and inhalers, applied to Cheshire East Council for permission to build the 76,000 sq ft expansion earlier this year.

The driving force behind the proposals is the desire to establish two new product lines.

The scheme would deliver a pair of manufacturing lines “supporting the growing demand for respiratory health products” and a move to develop more sustainable products, according to a planning report prepared by Cheshire East Council.

Cheshire East has already approved a package of enabling works to pave the way for the project so approval for the project, which could create 150 new jobs, is expected to be a formality.

One drawback of the scheme is the “extensive loss of existing trees” on site. However, Bespak has put mitigating measures in place. The firm will achieve its 10% biodiversity net gain obligation through the purchase of off-site units, according to the planning report.

Also up for approval at Cheshire East Council’s southern planning committee meeting next week are plans from Breck Homes for 54 affordable properties in Winterley and 47,000 sq ft of industrial space at Cotton Farm in Holmes Chapel.
