CERT hires head of BTR

Dougie Orton-Wade has joined the Manchester-based operator and developer from Dandara Living.

As head of build-to-rent, Orton-Wade will manage the operation of CERT’s projects once they complete. These include Peelers Yard and SONA, totalling 126 apartments and both in Manchester.

In addition, CERT’s BTR division, which includes lettings and FM functions, is set up to operate third party assets.

Orton-Wade’s appointment is “a key step in CERT’s ambition to redefine rental living by blending design-led developments with tech-enabled services that support a lean expenditure model”, the company said.

CERT’s new hire has a decade of experience across the student and BTR sectors, starting out as a manager at Vita Group.

Since then, he has had stints at Allsop, Native – where he was head of operations for two years – and most recently Dandara Living.

“I was attracted to the role at CERT because of the strong cultural alignment and the company’s progressive mindset, particularly its commitment to placemaking, innovation and technology,” he said.

“What stood out most to me was the team’s clear passion for doing things differently and for curating truly thriving communities, with technology at the forefront of that vision. CERT’s focus on striking the most effective balance between technology, AI, and human connection deeply resonates with my own values. I’m excited by the opportunity to help shape the future of BTR in such a forward-thinking environment.”

Howard Lord, CERT’s managing director, added: “Dougie’s expertise and vision for the BTR sector perfectly align with our ambitions to create exceptional, community-focused living experiences. We’re excited to see how his leadership will drive our innovation and growth as an operator in the sector.”

As part of CERT’s efforts to ramp up its BTR provision, the company is planning to roll out the CERT Life app, a community platform for residents that uses data to improve service.
