Bury STEM facility on site
Walter Carefoot & Sons has started work on a £2.5m project for Bury College to build a centre for science, technology, engineering and maths.
The facility at the Millennium campus is part of the college's response to an increased demand for construction trade skills. The development will provide workshops, classrooms and a drop-in IT centre.
The 16,000 sq ft building was designed by Seven Architecture and is due to complete by September 2015.
The scheme will be delivered with SDA Consulting as project manager and quantity surveyor, Alan Johnston Partnership as structural engineer and JRB Environmental as M&E consultants. WYG will be providing advice on the BREEAM elements.
The centre is being funded by the Skills Funding Agency.
Carefoot is currently on site with several other educational projects in the region for Lancashire County Council, Bolton Council, Sefton Council and Bacup & Rawtenstall Grammar School. The firm is undertaking work at Royal Preston Hospital creating new-build theatres and MRI scanner facilities, and is building a fire station at Alsager for Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service.
