Brewdog hotel to open this week

The craft beer business is to open its Doghouse Hotel Manchester at Bruntwood Works’ Bloc building on 13 August.

Brewdog secured planning consent in February for the project, which will bring an 18-bedroom hotel and bar to the Fountain Street-facing podium part of Bloc, as the 15-storey Lowry House has been rebranded.

The hotel is the company’s first in England and fourth overall, behind two in the US and one in Aberdeen. The official opening is at 12pm on Friday.

Features at the hotel include in-room beer taps and shower beers, while the hotel is billed as carbon-negative.

The architect for the project, which also includes a roof terrace, is Surface.

Bloc is one of the Bruntwood Works buildings that has been included in the company’s £50m Pioneer programme to upgrade existing office stock, with other holdings including Blackfriars House and 111 Piccadilly.

Brewdog also operates a bar on Peter Street and one of its Outpost locations, including an on-site brewery, on Oxford Road, along with a bar in Liverpool.

Launched in Scotland in 2007, Brewdog sold a 22% stake to private equity house TSG Commercial Partners a decade later and has pushed out internationally in recent years.

Brewdog’s owners are ardent Scottish nationalists. I’m sure the good folk of Manchester will remember that when recommending a hotel.
