Bowling alley, rooftop bar could be coming to Conwy holiday park

An extended amusement arcade also forms part of SF Park’s multi-million-pound proposals to upgrade the facilities on offer at its Golden Gate Holiday Centre in Towyn.

The AK Architects-designed scheme would provide “a state-of-the-art leisure complex” at the holiday park, according to a design and access statement.

Plans include the creation of a 3,400 sq ft six-lane bowling alley and a 4,600 sq ft rooftop bar, while the existing amusement arcade will be extended to provide 1,600 sq ft of space. The extended arcade will act as a connecting space between the existing facilities.

At present, Golden Gate Holiday Centre’s reception is located in another building. Approval would see the reception relocated to sit in the new complex beside the clubhouse, improving navigation for visitors.

There would also be 500 sq ft of open plan offices on the first floor, alongside a 200 sq ft meeting room and three offices ranging from 100 sq ft to 200 sq ft.

Proposals for the new leisure complex come as SF Parks are looking to increase the Golden Gate’s current 7.5-month season to 10.5 months in an effort to boost the local economy.

Jonathan Seldon, director of SF Parks, said: “Bringing people to the area throughout the year, not just in the summer, is vital for Towyn and surrounding areas.

“This is why the application to extend the season at Golden Gate to 10.5 months goes hand-in-hand with our plans to transform the leisure facilities and continue improving the experience for our loyal customers.”

The plans for Golden Gate Holiday Centre follow approval in April for SF Parks to build a high ropes course and cinema, amongst other facilities, at neighbouring Whitehouse Leisure Park.

As well as Golden Gate and Whitehouse, the family-run company owns and operates Riverside and Sun Valley caravan parks in Rhuddlan and Sirior Bach in Moelfre.

Oliver Seldon, the firm’s other director, said: “Our plans for Golden Gate and Whitehouse will be followed by improvements at our other parks, as across the portfolio we want to continue creating high-quality facilities for families to enjoy.

“We have had tremendous feedback from owners, from the community, and businesses who all want to see more things to do, more jobs, and a thriving Towyn all-year round – our commitment to further investment reflects that.”

Plans are not yet available to view on Conwy Council’s planning portal.
