Boutique hotel plans emerge in Bolton town centre

A former solicitors office on Wood Street could be converted into a 26-bedroom hotel under plans lodged with the local council.

Silk House Hotel, headed up by Naveed Mir, has submitted plans to redevelop the 7,600 sq ft former Russell and Russell Solicitors head office.

The building has been vacant since 2022 when the law firm relocated to Atria Spa Road.

Dwindling demand for offices, both nationally and locally, has prompted the owner to look at alternative uses to bring the building back into use.

A design and access statement accompanying the application prepared by Good and Tillotson states that various uses, including retail, restaurant, and mixed-use were all considered.

Ultimately, the developer is pressing ahead with plans for the hotel to address a shortage of overnight accommodation in the area.

There is a precedent for hotels locally; another aparthotel opposite the law firm’s former office completed recently.
