Bloor seeks final success with 200 Macclesfield homes
With outline consent secured by a Planning Inspectorate ruling in August, the housebuilder has submitted detailed plans for the Prestbury Road development with Cheshire East Council.
Turley is advising the applicant, the UK’s largest privately-owned housebuilder, on a scheme that will offer a mix of family, starter and affordable homes.
The site is within a 15-minute walk of Macclesfield District General Hospital and 20 minutes by foot from the town centre. Ninety homes will be discounted and affordable, interspersed with a green network of play areas, public open spaces, walking and running routes, tree planting and a new access to the start of the 25-mile Bollin Valley recreational path.
A Cheshire East Council planning committee debated the outline application for two hours last year, before – in the face of officer recommendation – refusing on the grounds that it would represent inappropriate development in the Green Belt, and would negatively impact on the Bollin Valley landscape. That refusal was then overturned in August.
Sitting well within the context has been at the forefront of the scheme’s detailed design, Turley said, with the River Bollin and Upton Wood guiding the architecture and landscape design, with new and existing natural features providing a permanent green buffer zone between homes, open countryside, and the Macclesfield Riverside Park local nature reserve.
Validation of the reserved matters submission means the public and other key stakeholders can now respond to the detailed proposals on Cheshire East Council’s planning portal.
Tom Loomes, senior planning manager at Bloor Homes, said: “We believe this neighbourhood will become one of the most desirable new communities in Cheshire. It’s a place where people can fulfil their home-ownership dreams, put down roots and build their futures.
“We wanted to make a long-term investment in Macclesfield that supports the hospital, local businesses, and public space improvements. Now these detailed plans are in, we are one step closer to delivering all the benefits we have promised.”
