Blackpool’s public realm plans to be unveiled
The latest phase of Blackpool's Central Corridor redevelopment is to be revealed at an event on Friday.
The North West Development Agency-funded Central Corridor Phase II is part of the Blackpool Masterplan, which has been drawn-up to improve the area and facilities for residents as well as attracting greater numbers of visitors.
Phase I was completed in May 2007 and created 650 parking spaces and a new park. The next set of works will both improve the aesthetics of the corridor and make access to the resort's attractions easier.
The Phase II plans, developed by environmental consultancy Gillespies, will see both the Seasiders Way area and the space around Blackpool Football Club Stadium transformed.
Proposals included continuous planting and street furniture along the corridor, a pedestrian entrance plaza to the football stadium, and a new look for Seasiders Way, with improved road crossing facilities and a new car park layout.
A planning application has also been submitted for the development of two feature walls.
On-site work is expected to begin in April of this year.
- The event, which is hosted by Blackpool regeneration company ReBlackpool, will run on Friday, 1 February, from 10.30am to 4.30pm at the ReBlackpool Revealed Centre in Houndshill Shopping Centre, Blackpool.
