BCEGI starts £45m Eccles resi

Located on Church Street in the Salford town, Silverlane Developments’ 272-apartment project features a 23-storey tower.

BCEGI is now on site working on the £45m scheme for client Arelsco Ventures and development partner Silverlane. Church Street Place is aimed at servicing the demand for rental accommodation in this part of the borough.

“Eccles historically has a very strong rental market, but it has a noticeable shortage of new build developments,” said Steve Carnes, managing director of Silverlane.

“Church Street Place will provide a new quality high-rise development, similar to the new developments in Salford Quays, Media City and Manchester city centre but more reasonable in terms of its price point.”

BCEGI lead director Dongwen Yu said his company was “delighted” to be chosen to build the project by Arelsco.

“We’ll bring our experienced focus on quality, safety, community and sustainability to the construction process, adding value at every stage of delivery,” Yu said.

An Arelsco representative expressed optimism for the scheme.

“Our vision to build quality affordable homes, together with BCEGI’s technical expertise and construction track record, will support us in creating a truly unique development,” the representative said.

The Church Street scheme was designed by Jeffrey Bell Architects and has been in the works for almost three years.

Silverlane secured planning permission for the project in December 2019. The approved application also includes more than 7,300 sq ft of commercial space.

The project team includes Booth King as structural engineer and Ridge as M&E consultant.

Church Street Place is one of two schemes the developer is bringing forward in Eccles. Earlier this year, Place North West revealed plans were being worked up for a 25-storey scheme on the site of the former Vauxhall garage on the corner of Albert Street and Peel Street.

And people on this site get concerned about 15 storeys in the city centre!!!! Where will it all end?

By Alarmed

Interesting how poly-centric it’s all getting, feeling a bit like London.

Hopefully this will kickstart the long overdue regeneration of Eccles. Right next door to a mainline station for those working in Spinningfields and City Centre and for the Tram to MediaCity. With Monton restaurants and greenspace just a hop away. Hopefully this will lead to the enlivenment of Church Street and a long overdue wholescale redevelopment of the dilapidated shopping centre.

Will be full in no time this. Excellent links to the city centre and Monton on your door step. Noticeable improvement in the bars and restaurants on this stretch as well lately.

Amazing news.. bring it on and hopefully further regeneration and developments

By Ste Cox

Agree this is a great development for that area, nice bars opening, hopefully the shopping centre will get a long overdue makeover.

anyone know how this Is being funded?

@pauline Private investment with American senior debt

Eccles has been very much the poor cousin to Monton for a long time. Needs a lot of investment now but the location for trams and very short train ride into Manchester means it’s such a good location. Wish I was around in 20 yrs time to see it.

By Albert

Will be great to see this built. Eccles is in need of investment, and as others have said its in a prime/well connected location. We need to see development of the shopping centre and knocking down the old multi story car park too. One main consideration is to bring back a sense of community to our town

By MJ

It’s great news but what about Eccles shopping centre needs some investment we need shops for all the new builds people love to shop xxxx

By Lesley

Great to see investment is coming our way, however it is needed more on the shopping centre and the multi storey carpark. There has been various property builds over the last couple of years. The area needs to be updated to draw interest back in to the area like Monton.

@Alarmed, if development scares you, move out to the countryside. I’m glad this is going ahead and would love to see more density around train stations and tram stops.

Good news. How long before an Altrincham or Stretford style market is in the town? Barton is a very undiscovered place too, with a nice waterside community, with easy access to motorways, the Quays and the Trafford Centre. Rich X has a point about the polycentric evolution of GM but unfortunately that will not continue, until they start extending the Metrolink with a bit more vigour, than a new line every Preston Guild.

Anonymous 6-18 read the message again…….I was joking about the way in which people who comment on this site react negatively to anything bigger than a Georgian town house

By Alarmed

If the rents are like the apartments in the quays.there wont be a rush to fill them

By Anonymous

@Alarmed, Apologies for my mistake haha!

I spent many happy years there

By That site was eccles parish school

A much needed facelift and investment for local business for the people of Eccles. BCEGI are running the job. So it’s Considerate construction at its finest. I look forward to seeing this job completed.
