Arup appoints fire engineering lead
Paul Williams has been appointed to head up Arup’s fire engineering consultancy services in the North West.
Williams was appointed to the newly-created role in March this year and will lead the 13-strong team based in Manchester, who are responsible for providing strategic advice, risk assessments and fire safety design to clients.
Williams said: “Buildings and structures are becoming bigger, taller, deeper and more complex, so it is crucial to engage fire engineering consultants at the earliest stages. We can help architects and designers realise their innovative architectural design while ensuring that people are protected against the highest safety standards.”
Williams joined Arup from BECA, a multi-disciplinary engineering firm in New Zealand, where he led a team of 32 fire engineers and established a countrywide fire engineering presence for the business.
A chartered fire engineer, he has 12 years of experience in fire engineering, both in the UK and globally. Williams has particular technical expertise in transport infrastructure design, such as major airport terminals, rail and tunnels.
Alistair Murray, Fire Engineering Director, UK, Arup: “Paul’s arrival will support the market growth and development that we are seeing in the North West. The diverse set of skills and experience is one of our greatest assets and Paul’s previous experience managing complex infrastructure and building projects overseas will help further strengthen the team.”
