JV North wins £95m for 792 homes
Homes England’s Social and Affordable Homes Programme will help finance the building of 660 social rent properties, 50 affordable rentals, 24 shared ownership homes, and 58 rent-to-buy properties across the region.
The homes are spread out across 14 sites in Greater Manchester, Liverpool City Region, and Cheshire. Delivering them will cost £300m, according to JV North. Many of the homes – which include extra care accommodation, apartments, and houses – are already on site.
The 792 homes will be delivered by the 15 members of the JV North consortium: Cobalt Housing, Cheshire Peaks & Plains Housing Trust, First Choice Homes Oldham, L&Q Housing Trust, Muir Group Housing Association, One Manchester, Plus Dane Housing, South Liverpool Homes, Southway Housing Trust, Stockport Homes Group, The Sovini Group, Torus, Weaver Vale Housing Trust, Warrington Housing Association, and Wythenshawe Community Housing Group.
Three homes built every working day – that had been JV North’s record from 2010 to 2020. This financial boost from SAHP will see the consortium return to those figures.
“This is the first allocation JV North has received in the SAHP and we know from our growing membership there is a huge appetite to build more,” said JV North chair John Bowker.
“We have a proven track record spanning three decades and will once again be delivering in volume to really capitalise on this generational opportunity to access long-term funding.”
Bowker emphasised that 83% of the homes benefiting from the £95m SAHP award will be social rent.
“This is really inspiring news for people living in our communities because we are building the type of properties with the tenures that are most needed to meet demand,” he said.
JV North was formed in 2007 and has overseen the building of more than 10,000 homes in the North West.
The group also runs a £500m framework, the latest edition of which was launched last year.
