Approval for 62-home Bengal Street bulldoze and build

Chorley Council has waved through plans to convert a brownfield industrial site into 10 townhouses and a five-storey apartment block.

The 1.7-acre site fronts the A6 and is owned by the local authority, which is working with planner Newmark and architect JTP to bring forward the 62 homes.

In the apartment block, 36 one- and 16 two-bedroom flats will be offered. The 10 townhouses, arranged in two rows, will be split as eight three- and two four-bed homes. Parking for 72 cars will be provided.

The Bengal Street scheme is one of three under Chorley’s £20m slice of Levelling Up Fund, along with a town hall public realm improvement and refurbishment of council offices. When complete, the projects are estimated to result in the creation of more than 36,000 sq ft of commercial and office space and close to 100 homes.

The project team for the Bengal Street homes includes Stantec, BDP, M&E, and The Environment Partnership. To view the plans, use the reference number 25/00330/CB3MAJ in Chorley Council’s planning portal.

“Parking for 72 cars will be provided”
An absolute joke. That number should be under 10.

If you want roads fit for bikes, walkers, e-scooters, as well as cars we must take parking off public roads and park private vehicles on private land; especially the long-term parkers.

Funny how one of the example mills used in the DAS (Cowling Mill), was allowed to be demolished. And Chapel Street is incorrectly called ‘Chorley High Street’ in the DAS….
