Wrexham seeks team to lead flagship regeneration effort

The county council is offering a £660,000 contract to a multidisciplinary team to take forward plans for the eastern gateway, a project that includes a new transport hub and a 70,000 sq ft office.

Wrexham County Council, part of the Wrexham Gateway Partnership that also includes Transport for Wales, the Welsh Government and Wrexham University, is on the hunt for a team to take the project from RIBA stage 2 through to delivery.

This will involve “developing a procurement and funding strategy to procure a development partner to fund and deliver the proposed scheme”, according to tender documents.

The eastern gateway is one half of Wrexham’s flagship regeneration project and includes plans for a new-build office scheme and transport hub opposite Wrexham station that is aimed at better integrating rail and bus services.

A new public square and plans for a new Wrexham Lager brewery and tap room also feature in the proposal.

An outline planning application for the project is expected this summer.

A new kop at Wrexham FC’s STōK Cae Ras is also proposed as part of the wider gateway project, however, it falls outside of the scope of the eastern zone.

Surely Wrexham now a city needs a nice indoor market replacing the old vegetable market which should never had been losed . People visiting need indoor facilities.

Totally agree with Mike. Someone from Wrexham Council should check out the excellent indoor market in Swansea which puts Wrexham markets to shame. Also, how more cafes are going to spring up? What we need is a big department store or some decent shops, not the obsession with cafe culture.
