Bury most pro-active towards £336m coach tourism industry
Bury has been awarded the Confederation of Passenger Transport's Coach Friendly title – as a new report revealed that coach travel in the North West is worth £336m.
The market town was announced the winner at the British Travel Trade Fair in Birmingham today, after coach operators voted it top thanks to its number of coach friendly destinations.
Bury is the fourth destination in the North West to receive the accolade, joining Chester, Southport and Eden Valley in Cumbria, all of which have previously won the title.
The award coincided with the publication of a report into the North West's coach tourism industry, jointly commissioned by the North West Development Agency and CPT.
The study examines both the volume and the value of coach tourism to the North West, as well as identifying future potential and opportunities for development.
James Berresford, director of tourism at the NWDA, said: "Coach tourism is an important sector in the North West, and four Coach Friendly Awards is testament to how seriously we take it here in the Northwest. This new report goes a long way to demonstrating the significance of the coach tourism industry in the North West and will help us to tailor our products and services further to meet the needs of this significant market."
