Peel given approval on residential scheme in Farington
South Ribble Council has approved Peel Holdings' plans to transform a road haulage depot in Farington into a residential development.
The redevelopment is located on the existing Roadferry site, off Carr Lane, in Farington, Lancashire.
The scheme will involve the existing haulage depot being relocated to make way for modern housing comprising a mix of sizes.
South Ribble's planning committee gave the go-ahead to the scheme, subject to Peel and its consultants concluding a legal agreement to deal with open space and affordable housing.
Richard Moffat, director in the planning, development and regeneration team at Lambert Smith Hampton's Manchester office, which acted on behalf of Peel, said: "The redevelopment of the site will materially enhance the surrounding neighbourhood, eliminating the need for 24-hour access to the Roadferry site, thereby reducing the current high-volume of vehicle movement.
"Working with the council we were also able to successfully demonstrate that it was inappropriate for the development to incur any commuted payments, which resulted in a substantial cost saving for our clients."
