London Road fire station contest open day
Developers and their advisors are being invited to a question and answer session with senior planning officers on Thursday 13 January to discuss the redevelopment plans for London Road fire station in Piccadilly.
The informal drop-in session is being held in the Lord Mayor's Parlour in Manchester Town Hall, Albert Square, between 2.30pm and 6pm.
The tender brief for the redevelopment was published in December. The council is seeking to appoint a development partner or consortium including a lead developer, full professional team, funder and hotel operator to redevelop the derelict Grade II* listed building into a 4* or equivalent hotel and event destination.
The council may extend the initial four-year development contract to secure long-term operational requirements for the resultant hotel through a development agreement, lease or other legal agreements. The nature and content of these documents will be negotiated during the procurement and may be for an initial period with options to extend.
The council is hoping to acquire the site through a compulsory purchase order from Alex Langsam's Britannia Hotel. Langsam objects to the CPO and, as a result, a public inquiry is expected to be held in the first half of 2011.
The deadline for returning pre-qualification questionnaires is 4 February.
