Bramall hires 60 for heating and plumbing division

The Salford-Quays based construction firm said it has found employment for 60 displaced apprentices and skilled workers who lost their jobs due to the recession.

Bramall launched its own heating and plumbing service last year and has created eight managerial posts, 50 skilled jobs and four support posts in addition to six apprenticeships.

Bramall's new building service was used to help refurbish 50 properties a week on behalf of Southway Housing Trust and 20 properties a week for City South Manchester Housing Trust.

Frank Mondino, Bramall Construction's commercial director, said: "We actually got the additional plumbing and heating services up and running within just one week to support displaced apprentices.

"Unfortunately it's very easy for companies to go into administration at the moment due to the current economic climate but we want to help firms as much as we can and are always available to provide our support if needed.

"The creation of our new building services team enabled us to offer jobs to people who were being laid off and those people went on to work on key refurbishment projects.

"We didn't offer plumbing and heating as a service in the past but we can now offer these skills."

James Platt, 29, joined Bramall Construction as an apprentice plasterer in November last year when his building firm went into administration.

Platt said: "I'm currently working towards my NVQ Level 2 in plastering at Bramall Construction.

"I'm really grateful for Bramall for taking me on as I don't think I would have been in a position to find another job the way things are in the current market. I'm over the moon that Bramall stepped in to help me in the way it did."
