Cheshire East launches new Macclesfield brand

The business community in Macclesfield is launching a new strategy this weekend aimed at promoting the town's image and boosting its economy.

Cheshire East Council and its Macclesfield local area partnership are holding a series of events to launch the strategy, known as Make it Macclesfield.

The Macclesfield LAP brings together people from the statutory, voluntary and community sectors.

Events will take place at the following times:

  • Friday 6 May – The new brand will be launched at Macclesfield rugby club's beer festival from 7pm at Priory Park, Priory Lane, Macclesfield
  • Saturday 7 May – An abseil will begin at Macclesfield town hall on Unicorn Gateway at 11am, with activities running until 3pm
  • Sunday 8 May – The new brand will be revealed at Macclesfield Town Football Club's Moss Rose ground at 1.45pm. Soap stars from Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Waterloo Road will take part in a charity football match, with kick off at 2pm. There will also be a fire engine, bouncy castle, burger vans and a 'beat the goalie' competition during the day which starts from 12pm and runs until 5pm

David Rutley, Macclesfield member of parliament, will take part in the abseil alongside members from the economic forum for Macclesfield and Cheshire East councillors and staff. The event will help towards raising funds for the Medical and Surgical Trust at Macclesfield District Hospital.

Jason Patrick, from brand agency Vibe, who is a member of the economic forum for Macclesfield, said: "A lot of hard work has been put into the creation of this unique identity ensuring we capture the values, essence and character that are essentially Macclesfield. We aim for this to be a great springboard for Macclesfield to fulfil its potential and steer its aspirations."

Cheshire East said the brand identity was born following business breakfasts and the economic forum was set up by the council and Rutley, together with the Macclesfield Guild and Chamber of Trade and Macclesfield Chamber of Commerce.

Caroline Simpson, head of regeneration at Cheshire East, added: "I would urge everyone to come out and support these events and show their pride in Macclesfield."
