Tameside contractor closes after 40 years

Grimwood & Dix, a Dukinfield-based electrical contractor, has ceased trading with the loss of 100 jobs after administrators failed to find a buyer.

Baker Tilly Restructuring & Recovery LLP said the 40-year-old business had suffered from the "effects of a number of poorly performing contracts and a significant dispute with a major customer that had resulted in debtor monies being withheld."

Lindsey Cooper, joint administrator and North West restructuring and recovery partner at Baker Tilly, said: "The closure of Grimwood and Dix was unfortunately the last resort for the company and every effort was made by all concerned to secure the sale of the business before this occurred.

"The issues faced by Grimwood and Dix were further exasperated by the general economic climate and are symptomatic of the pressures that businesses within this sector continue to experience."
