Work starts on rebuilding Chester’s city walls
Restoration of a 30-metre section of Chester's Roman city walls has started.
The section is located alongside the Grosvenor Hotel which collapsed in April last year. Last November, the final phase to make the area safe and to stabilise the structure before all the arrangements for rebuilding could be agreed was completed.
Restoration specialists Maysand has been appointed by Cheshire West and Chester Council to complete the restoring work and archeologists hope to put the damaged stones back to how they originally looked.
A team of specialists from Gifford's, Maysand, English Heritage, Chester Renaissance and the council have been working in partnership.
The restoration work is expected to take eight and 12 months to complete.
