Work begins on latest Metrolink stop

The next phase of work to develop a new Metrolink stop in Cheetham Hill on the Bury line started this week.

Peter Cushing, Metrolink Director, said: "We hope the development of a new Metrolink stop will benefit the area by increasing convenience and boosting transport links to and from the city centre.

"We are aware of the disruption that such a project can have on passengers, businesses, residents and other people in the area and we're doing we can everything to minimise that whilst also completing the work in as short a time as possible."

There will be ongoing work to complete the construction of the inbound and outbound platforms at the Queens Road site for around eight weeks. Work will be carried out to construct the lift shaft, erect columns to support the access stairway to the outbound platform and lay the foundations to the inbound platform.

A crane will be positioned next to Queens Road, which will require a temporary lane closure and temporary traffic lights.

The Cheetham Hill stop is due to open before the end of the year.
