Woodford Garden Village £25m retirement community completes

Vistry has finished building 87 apartments and 17 bungalows for Anchor on four acres of the former airfield and aircraft factory in Stockport.

The project has been half a decade in the making, with plans submitted in 2021 and approved a year later. Countryside Partnerships secured the £25m contract for the build in May 2023. Since then, Countryside has been acquired by Vistry.

Brewster Bye Architects designed the development, known as The Peaks, for Anchor.

“This scheme represents an important investment in high-quality, affordable housing that supports older people and their evolving needs,” said Victoria Mager, director of development delivery for Anchor.

“At Anchor, we’re dedicated to creating homes where people can enjoy later life to the fullest. The Peaks is a great example of how thoughtfully designed communities can be created to meet the needs of older people in the local area.”

Zac Worthington, managing director of Vistry Merseyside & Cheshire West, added: “Providing more homes of this tenure in communities where they’re needed most is an absolutely critical part of the housing market which is often overlooked, so we’re delighted to fully complete and hand over the site.”

The Peaks is part of the wider Woodford Garden Village project from Barratt Redrow, which hopes to deliver more than 1,000 homes and 50 acres of public green space on the 500-acre brownfield site. The project is well underway, with 600 homes already delivered as well as a primary school. A 540-home extension to the garden village is currently going through the Planning Inspectorate.

Really well located for taking advantage of all the facilities in the local centre that Barratt Redrow haven’t yet built.
