Wirral Waters to welcome six-acre David Lloyd Leisure scheme
Plans are in for the development of a fitness and wellness club at Bidston Dock, providing both indoor and outdoor facilities.
David Lloyd Leisure wants to build three tennis courts protected by an enclosed air dome, six canopy-covered padel courts, and an indoor sports hall providing a further two full-size padel courts.
Indoor and outdoor pools have been planned, as well as spa facilities, a gym, and fitness studio spaces.
In addition, the club would add a multi-use court and a ‘battle box’ exercise facility to its external area.
A children’s area with soft play, café and lounge facilities, and a business hub with a terrace round off the proposals.
The plot is in Peel Waters’ Bidston Dock site accessed from Wallasey Bridge Road, part of the Wirral Waters masterplan.
Plans have been submitted to Wirral Council by consultant Lichfields on the leisure company’s behalf.
David Lloyd expects the club to create around 100 jobs, with 60 created during the construction phase.
Richard Mawdsley, director of development at Wirral Waters, said: “Having a market-leading operator like David Lloyd bringing world-class facilities to Wirral Waters is hugely exciting and a real game-changer for the area.
“David Lloyd’s commitment to sustainability and the jobs they will create for local people also make them an ideal development partner.
“We have long-term plans to create a leisure-led, mixed-use destination in the Bidston area, and this is just the start.”

Stuart Caswell, new club acquisition director at David Lloyd, added: “We are delighted to be part of the future for Wirral Waters.
“Our plan is to construct a state-of-the-art health and wellness club that not only enhances the area and creates a range of jobs and opportunities for the local community, but also reflects the needs of people living in the area.”
The club has been designed by architect Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson, a firm that has long been a long-time collaborator on David Lloyd schemes countrywide.
Elsewhere at Wirral Waters, Peel’s £4.5bn project, the 500-home Millers Quay recently completed.
In February, plans were submitted for the second phase of nearby Redbridge Quay, aiming to add a further 78 homes to Wirral Waters.

Look at all that parking. I take it Wirral Waters is just going to become another car dependent nightmare then. I thought we were leaving this kind of planning in the 20th century.

Any new projects that produce job opportunities is a good thing.

In an area that bottle necks in all directions every morning. At an already very dangerous kidney shaped roundabout. Traffic lights are long overdue.

There is a Sports hall and various sports fields at Bidston Moss already. Tennis Courts all over Birkenhead Park. Gyms galore. What a total waste of money. Probably being built for the elite!

Yes that’s fantastic more cars to block the dock road up well done Wirral waters parking wherever did the company supply parking spaces for the new flats as there is cars everywhere

What a shower of moaners, they’d rather see a bombsite than some investment in this part of the Wirral.
And as for @ Jacko if you think the elite go to David Lloyd Leisure clubs then you need to get out a bit more.

Astonished by the negative reaction to investment into an area which is in desperate need of momentum. This will surely be a high quality offer which will play a role in attracting businesses and residents over the coming years whilst offering immediate employment opportunities.

Let’s hope they sort out the roads as part of the project like a slip road up on to the bypass as an exit instead of straight on the roundabout

Finally, a health and fitness facility that has some decent additional offers above a traditional weights/ machine gym. Something like this has been absent for too long.

This will be amazing, so many job opportunities and just what we need around here, it looks unreal!

Possibly the most astonishing set of comments i’ve ever seen on PNW and that is really saying something. A fantastic illustration of how boiled peoples brains are in Wirral. Don’t want development and investment on greenfield or brownfield sites. If the first thing you think of when seeing this is traffic concerns, I’d strongly suggest seeking urgent medical attention.

Anybody know the membership cost , I would like to join .

I personally can’t wait for this. Good to see investment in Wallasey for more than shops and car parks. My friend is in the DL in Speke and the facilities are amazing.
