Wirral Waters food hall given go-ahead

AP Mitchell Group has been given permission to knock down the former Royal Swan pub on Dock Road and build a 25,000 sq ft dining destination.

Located within Peel L&P’s 300-acre Wirral Waters masterplan, the pub has been vacant for more than 15 years. It will make way for a venue with space for seven food vendors.

The Dock Road venue could also be used to host events and features both indoor and outdoor seating.

Evoke Architecture is leading on the design of the scheme, which will provide an amenity for some of the residents within the 13,000-home Wirral Waters regeneration scheme.

Matt Sharp, director at Evoke, said: “We are delighted that the local authority has worked closely with us to approve this scheme, stating “the design of the proposed building is high quality and responds to the dimensions of the site” in their decision summary. It is great to be involved in creating a space that will serve as a vibrant social and leisure hub for the growing community.

“The design works carefully to balance modern design with reminiscent character features, sympathetic to the original building and surrounding historic buildings of similar style. The result is a contemporary structure that aligns with the evolving character of Dock Road and the Wirral Waters masterplan.”

Execution is key, but this is a very good slice of architecture.

Excellent. Hopefully the start of great things and bringing some real vibrancy to this area alongside the much needed housing growth. Hopefully a real success and the catalyst to much more to follow.

Interesting design, kind of shows what could be achieved with some of our unused cinemas.
