Wirral passes flurry of conversions

A fire station changing into office and retail, a bank becoming an aparthotel, and Bellway’s 127 homes on an industrial park, were among schemes approved under delegated powers.

Bellway will demolish the existing warehouse to make way for housing

Bellway has gained full approval for 127 homes across 15 acres of land at Wirral Business Park in Arrowe Brook Road, between Upton and Greasby. The plans call for the demolition of a vacant warehouse on the site and the creation of a new access road. Of the homes, 25 will be affordable.

Sisra West Kirkby Fire Station March 2020

In West Kirby, schools consultant Sisra’s application for the conversion of the vacant West Kirby Community Fire Station into 9,700 sq ft of offices and retail was approved. The development will be subdivided into 6,800 sq ft of offices and 2,900 sq ft of retail.

In the design and access statement compiled by Bryson Architecture, it states that “the office space is required by the company, which will provide continuity to the existing employment of the business and allow for additional expansion.”

Lloyds Bank Aparthotel Conversion Wirral March 2020

In Birkenhead, private developer E O’Grady’s proposals to convert the grade one-listed former Lloyds Bank in Hamilton Square into a 10-bedroom aparthotel was also approved. The four-storey building will be developed into bedrooms, along with with a reception area and management office.

Wirral Council held its planning committee on 19 March as normal, but has since cancelled all meetings for the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus.
