Westchurch secures consent for affordable Rochdale resi

The housebuilder will now progress with its plans to deliver 72 homes on the Heywood site, which was formerly home to the Marina Ropeworks.

Rochdale Council has approved the affordable scheme which will feature a mix of homes and apartments accessed off Wesley Street and Brunswick Street, under delegated powers.

Designed by MCK Associates, the development will be made up of 16 two-, 22 three-, and 14 four-bedroom houses, as well as 20 one-bedroom apartments.

Currently, a collection of former rope factory buildings occupy the site. These buildings date from the 1880s to the 1920s, having remained in use until 2020.

Once the factories are demolished, reclaimed materials will be used to construct the apartment block.

Turley is the planning consultant for the scheme. The project team also includes Broadway Malyan, Trevor Bridge Associates, Hepworth Acoustics, Bowland Tree Consultancy, Geo Consulting Engineers, Miller Goodall, and RSK.

To find out more about the development, search for application number 21/01796/FUL on Rochdale Council’s planning portal.

Affordable homes as in what ?? Not many people can afford a new home let the council have the land & rehome those who are forced to rent private, because all council properties are being given to dare I say more needy families
