Werfen first to sign at latest Birchwood shed scheme

The medical diagnostics company is close to agreeing a deal on a 19,000 sq ft unit within the third phase of the Cavendish Warehouse development, due to complete in Q1 2023.

Werfen, which researches, develops, and manufactures customized biomaterials, will occupy the new unit in addition to another one of a similar size nearby.

The deal will see Werfen’s total footprint at Birchwood park increase to 35,000 sq ft as the company looks to increase its efficiency and output amid a period of growth.

“Expanding our warehouse space here at Birchwood Park allows us to further improve the processing of customer deliveries, as well as supporting our business-wide sustainability objectives in 2023,” said Werfen general manager Richard Hames.

“Our warehouse space at Birchwood Park has helped to support the evolution of our business over the years due to its ideal location in the heart of the North West. We’re excited to continue our work here.”

Caddick Construction began building the 161,000 sq ft third phase of Cavendish Warehouses at Warrington’s Birchwood Park in June.

Werfen will occupy one of two 19,000 sq ft warehouses. A 29,000 sq ft warehouse and a 94,000 sq ft warehouse remain available.

“[This scheme] incorporates all the lessons from previous developments to offer modern facilities to help attract and retain staff for our occupiers,” said Martin O’Rourke, commercial director for Patrizia, asset manager of the 1.2m sq ft Birchwood Park.

“More importantly, we have been able to incorporate within the design the latest measures to help Werfen achieve its sustainability goals.”

Earlier phases of the complex are let to British Engineering Services, Arne Clo, and Kleen-Tex, among others.

Birchwood Park is owned by Warrington Council, which acquired it for more than £200m in 2017.
