United Utilities appoints 30 North West firms to £500m framework
Story Contracting, Cubby Construction, and SGC Civil Engineering are three of the companies to land a spot on the water company’s list of approved contractors for infrastructure improvements.
United Utilities’ £500m minor works framework is focussed on county-based projects such as making improvements to process treatment plants, installing storm overflow solutions, and improving rainwater management. Contractors may also be brought in to assist with United Utilities’ £3bn Better Rivers mission, which seeks to reduce storm overflow spills in the North West by 60% by 2030.
“Our plan to leave a legacy in the North West goes beyond developing infrastructure,” said Jane Simpson, capital delivery director at United Utilities. “We also want to grow businesses, harness the skills, and knowledge of local people, and provide career opportunities to make the region stronger, greener, and healthier.
“Our latest partnership is a huge step towards making this happen, and I’m incredibly pleased to have companies with local bases on board; bringing with them a wealth of regional experience to help us deliver quickly for customers in each of our five counties.”
The framework includes more than just the promise of project work, according to Simpson. It also factors in a series of social values initiatives, including working alongside United Utilities to set up apprenticeships and skills academies.
