Trafford given more time to spend £18m Partington Sports Village grant

The Department for Levelling Up, Homes, and Communities has granted the council an extra 12 months to complete the renovation project, extending the funding deadline to March 2026.

Trafford Council was awarded £18.3m from the government’s Levelling Up Fund last March to improve Partington Sports Village.

The project is on course to complete in early 2026. The original deadline to spend the grant – as with all round two Levelling Up Fund awards – was March 2025.

However, the government has given Trafford an extra year to spend the LUF cash, according to a report to the council’s executive.

Trafford’s executive will meet next week to agree to progress the project through to RIBA stage 4 and submit a planning application.

The scheme, designed by Ellis Williams Architects, proposes the wholesale revamp of the leisure centre as well as upgrades to facilities at nearby Cross Lane Park.

To complement the improved facilities at Partington Sports Village, a 3G sports pitch would be created a 10-minute walk away at Broadoak School.

It is anticipated that the sports village will be closed for more than a year beginning this October while work takes place.

Would need to inprove the roads going to this sports village, as cars going there just turn in without looking. cars comming the otherway off the country rds are sitting targets. You have a narrow rd which gets parked up. not enough parking and a dangerouse corner. This needs inproving.
