Thirteen make shortlist for RIBA awards
A total of 13 buildings have been shortlisted for the regional Royal Institute of British Architects awards.
The winners of the 2011 RIBA Awards for projects based in the North West, North East and Yorkshire will be announced at a dinner being held at the Manchester Town Hall in Albert Square on Wednesday 18 May.
The 13 shortlisted in the North West includes:
- Artingstalls Chapel, Manchester designed by OMI Architects
- Hilton Square, Manchester designed by Q2 Architects
- North Manchester Sixth Form College, Manchester designed by Walker Simpson Architects
- The Point Lancashire County Cricket Club, Manchester designed by BDP
- Trafford College Learning Resource Centre, Altrincham designed by Stephenson Bell Architects
- Stockport College, Stockport designed by Austin-Smith:Lord LLP
- Heating Infrastructure Project, Liverpool designed by Levitt Bernstein
- Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts, Lancaster designed by Sheppard Robson
- Sir Charles Carter Building, Lancaster designed by John McAslan + Partners
- Lawson Park, Coniston designed by Sutherland Hussey Architects
- Love Shack, Ambleside designed by Sutherland Hussey Architects
- The Yan, Ambleside designed by Sutherland Hussey Architects
- The Darwen Aldridge Community Academy, Darwen designed by Aedas Architects
Simon Allford, director at AHMM, Jonathan Falkingham of Urban Splash, and Clive Birch, comprise the judging panel and will visit each scheme before the winners are named on 18 May.
The judges will look at the budget, size, complexity of brief, detail, invention/originality, contract type, client satisfaction, sustainability, social factors and capacity to engage and delight its occupants and visitors.
