THING OF THE WEEK
DIP… Wyld Sauna has announced that work is underway on a major expansion at Liverpool’s Princes Dock, a project led by community, accessibility and connection. How so? Well, access is front and centre, with Wyld installing a lift to dock level, and introducing other design tweaks to support guests with limited mobility. The expanded site – famously, a pioneering floating facility – will support a broader programme, including dedicated sessions, from safe spaces for LGBTQ+ groups to events catering to over-60s. Wyld plans to host regular women-only and silent sessions, and is introducing a ‘board of culture,’ a collective that will steer its future direction.

FERRY GOOD NEWS… Ready for the next chapter in Liverpool’s maritime story? This week has seen sea trials launched for the first new Mersey Ferry in more than 60 years, with the Royal Daffodil roaring (chugging?) into action. Painted in Mersey Ferries’ historic red, white and black colours, the ferry was inked in to leave APCL Cammell Laird’s shipyard in Birkenhead yesterday, having spent two years under construction. The ferry was first floated on the river last November and moved immediately to the shipyard’s test basin to be fitted out internally. It’s all change for Mersey Ferries, as the Royal Iris was retired a fortnight ago as the Dazzle Ferry ‘Snowdrop’ resumed services on the river.

BRUNCH… Hats off to Cert Property Management, hanging the virtual NO VACANCIES sign at Hilton House in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Cert has secured terms with Bruncho to take over the 4,378 sq ft ground floor space formerly occupied by the well-regarded Feel Good Club. Bruncho has built up quite the reputation for “viral social media dishes” apparently. Put us down for a Naughty Beef Yorkie!
TEED UP… Everton FC’s football pitch is set to become a golfing green this summer. American company Upper Deck Golf is making its UK stadium debut 16-19 July at the team’s Liverpool sports complex, allowing fans a chance to test their drivers from high up in the stands. Fore!
GOING DIGITAL… Roll out the Claret carpet, because player arrivals at Burnley FC’s Turf Moor Stadium have undergone a glow-up, thanks to ADI installing a variety of digital screens and two immersive tunnels. The screens will help drum up the hype and, according to images sent to Place, perhaps get onlookers revved up for a trip to Detroit? We do have questions about that one.
