ARCH… Robertson Construction has lodged plans to convert three disused railway arches opposite HOME in Manchester into a talent development centre. Designed by Jon Matthews Architects, the project will feature a sprung dancefloor, fixings to support aerial work and a “sacrificial floor”, whatever that is.

WEAVER… The recently renamed Handforth Town Council is ready to forget the infamous Jackie Weaver debacle. The council tweaked its name, swapping out the word parish for town, in a bid to draw a line under the chaos wrought by that meeting. However, while Handforth seemingly wants to leave the Jackie Weaver episode in the past, the town is still allowing her to switch on its Christmas lights. Another Cheshire town is ready to embrace the internet sensation for a little bit longer. Northwich Town Council, in conjunction with the BID, has invited Weaver to switch on its Christmas lights too. Let’s hope she has the requisite authority for the job.

MEAT... Grainger’s Filaments development in Salford is preparing to welcome its first commercial tenant, according to documents lodged with Salford City Council. Giorgio’s Artisan Butchery & Grill and GReefos Artisan Grill House will occupy the 2,000 sq ft on the ground floor of Neon block at Filaments. Something for residents of the £80m scheme to get their teeth into.

CHORLEY TREES… The local council has been handing out trees to residents for free. More than 2,000 Silver Birch, Crab Apple, Holly, Mountain Ash trees were handed out at an event at Ackhurst Lodge car park recently. After declaring a climate emergency in 2019, Chorley Council pledged that more than 116,000 trees would be planted in the borough by 2025. So far, around 30,000 of that total have been planted. Not bad going. Maybe other councils might decide to take a leaf out of Chorley’s book.

LIVERPOOL POLLUTION… 37 sensors designed to monitor pollution levels on roads in the Liverpool City Region are to be installed by spring 2022. The initiative aims to cut congestion and protect communities from harmful emissions. The technology will also be linked to traffic control systems and signals that can be used to manage and divert traffic when pollution reaches elevated levels. A great idea – but pretty annoying if you’re at the back of a long queue of traffic in an electric car.

SPEC-TACO-LAR… Taco Bell is officially making its Lancashire debut. Blackpool Council has said si to the Mexican-style fast-food chain setting up shop at the old Steals clothing store on Rigby Road. It’s good news for those plagued with late-night burrito cravings. Lets hope the good people of Blackpool are prepared for the delights that are the Crunchwrap Supreme. Now that’s something to taco ’bout.
