Story pushes on in Brampton with 210 more homes
The Cumbrian housebuilder is seeking permission to build out the second phase of its Winchester Place development.
A request for an environmental impact assessment screening opinion has been lodged with Cumberland Council by Story Homes, which has already completed 106 homes at the overall site and now wants to build 210 more.
The phase two site off Carlisle Road amounts to around 25 acres.
As set out in the developer’s covering letter, the site was identified as a deliverable housing site in the 2012 and 2014 updates of the local planning authority’s strategic housing land availability assessment, where the whole site was considered deliverable.

The site is also partly allocated for residential development under the housing strategy part of the Carlisle District Local Plan 2015–2030, Story said. Within the Local Plan, it is referred to as land south of Carlisle Road, Brampton, with an indicative yield of 250 dwellings.
Story said: “The principle of residential development on the site is therefore well established through its inclusion in the SHLAA as a deliverable site, allocation in the adopted Local Plan, and partial implementation through an extant planning permission on adjoining land.”
The site is within walking distance of Brampton town centre, said Story, and “will be designed to respect the transition from town to countryside,” with the developer suggesting an EIA should not be required.
