Stockport approves 72-bed care home

Liberty Care Developments has secured planning permission to demolish the car body shop at 263 Edgeley Road and construct a facility capable of providing specialist dementia care.

The site is a little over one acre in size and also held a car wash.

C Squared Architects designed the 37,670 sq ft scheme, which will see 72 bedrooms constructed across three floors. Each resident will have their own en-suite bedroom and access to communal facilities including a hair salon, games room, cinema, dining room, and quiet lounge. There will also be three dayrooms.

In addition to all of that, the care home will have drug stores, a reception area, assisted bathrooms, a kitchen and a laundry room. There will be spaces for 28 cars to park.

Liberty Care is partnering with Anvaro Care to ensure 24-hour elderly nursing care is available on the site.

Andy Baddeley, managing director of Liberty Care Developments, said the company was “delighted” to secure consent.

“This will provide a high standard of quality accommodation that should be expected in the sector and offer choice to Stockport residents in light of the ever-ageing population,” Baddeley said. “Alongside other care provision and elderly housing options, it is a critical service for local people”

Avison Young is the planning consultant for the scheme. The project team also includes BWB Consulting, TPM Landscape, and Cameron Rose Associates.

The application reference number with Stockport Council for the project is DC/082795.
