Start looms for much-anticipated St Michael’s tower

The 41-storey Manchester project, which features a five-star hotel, is being delivered by a JV between Salboy and Gary Neville’s development company Relentless.

The Manchester tower comprises five storeys of office accommodation, 25 storeys of apartments, and a five-star hotel spanning 10 floors that will be operated under Marriott Group’s luxury W Hotel brand.

Two tower cranes will be required to construct the tallest part of the St Michael’s scheme and contractor Domis is due to begin enabling work in June.

Following enabling work, Domis is due to start the main construction phase of the building in August, according to new documents submitted to Manchester City Council.

Overall, the scheme is expected to take 180 weeks to complete. Handover is pencilled in for Q1 2027.

Last year, Salboy and Relentless formed a 50/50 joint venture to deliver the tower, which is designed by Hodder + Partners.

The gross development value for the project is estimated at £250m.

The hotel/resi tower makes up the second major phase of the St Michael’s project.

Main contractor Bowmer + Kirkland began work on the first phase, which includes offices and a rooftop restaurant, last year.

The first phase is expected to complete in 2024.

At last! Be glad to see the whole St Michaels development finished, especially now that Albert square and the town hall are a bit closer to being finished.

@anonymous – lol!

Said it before but it would be great if someone could buy and redevelop the old Theatre Royal nearby. It would really finish off an area that has had so much impressive work done over a number of years.

Start looms? It started last year.

    Hi Anonymous, as stated in the story, the first phase (offices) started last year. B+K is the contractor for this element of the project. The subject of this story is the tower (hotel and apartments). Hope this helps. Thanks, Dan.

I’m sorry but this needs to be at least 70 stories tall otherwise it is a waste of this prime site

Giant Skyscraper fan, 70 storeys ? Its coming apparently, but just down the Rd in Gr Jackson St with all of the others there. I’m more than happy with this one, the whole development actually. There is some real quality to the design..
