South Manchester extra care facility completes
Wythenshawe Community Housing Group has completed construction of Village 135, an £18m extra care scheme designed by Pozzoni Architecture, which provides accommodation for residents aged 55 and over.
Village 135 is split across two sides of Hollyhedge Road and is connected via a glass bridge to allow residents access to the facilities on each side.
The project is made up of 135 two-bedroom apartments, ranging in size from 678 sq ft up to 861 sq ft.
A range of community facilities, some of which can be used by the public, are also on site including multi-purpose meeting spaces, an IT suite, bistro, salon, laundrette, health consultant space and spa. Residents also have access to sensory gardens, sun rooms and a roof top terrace.
Galliford Try was the contractor.
Paul Reid, senior architectural technologist at Pozzoni, said: “As with all our designs, Village 135 is entirely focussed on the end user, not just in the short term but looking on to the future too. With this project, we wanted to create a building that is modern, yet homely and not from first glance a stereotypical care or older persons’ environment. Through intelligent design we have we have achieved this and created a place where people can live independently in high quality surroundings whilst having the flexibility of adapting their level of care if their requirements change.”
Nigel Wilson, group chief executive of Wythenshawe Community Housing Group, said: “These new homes will provide housing for older people through a mixed tenure of affordable rent, shared ownership and outright sales. Village 135 will provide Wythenshawe and the surrounding suburbs a variety of housing options if they wish to downsize or want to find something better suited for their ever-changing needs. The community hub, I am sure, will be very popular with the local community and will play a major part in establishing Wythenshawe as a place where people choose to live and work.”
Are there any vacancies for over 55s
