Simms, Batterton join TLT from DWF

Julie Simms and Andrew Batterton have been appointed partners at the law firm’s Manchester office, bolstering its real estate division’s expertise in public-private partnerships, complex grant-funded projects, and largescale regeneration projects.

Recently, they have worked on high-profile projects in the North West, including the redevelopment of Wythenshawe town centre, Godley Green Garden Village in Tameside, and Festival Gardens in Liverpool.

Both Simms and Batterton held senior roles at DWF, where Simms was co-lead for the national regeneration development and infrastructure team and Batterton led the national development and infrastructure planning team. Simms was also the managing partner for the Liverpool office, while Batterton held the same post in Leeds.

Simms specialises in advising on site investigation and assembly, development agreements, and real estate funding structures.

Strategy for statutory consenting, compulsory purchase orders, and major project delivery are specialities for Batterton.

They are not the only two senior hires at TLT from DWF – John Webster joined the law firm’s London office this month as well.

James Chadwick, partner and head of location for Manchester at TLT, said that hiring Simms and Batterton showed the firm’s loyalty to growing its Manchester office – which is located at the Eden building in Salford.

Chadwick said: “Between them, they will significantly enhance the range of advice we can offer to our clients across multiple sectors and will be a strong addition to our real estate team in Manchester and across the country.”

Simms said she and Batterton were “delighted” to be part of the TLT team.

“With growing demand for advice on complex development, regeneration and infrastructure projects, TLT’s strong reputation, national platform and integrated approach provide an excellent foundation to support clients across the full project lifecycles,” she said.

“As the real estate landscape continues to evolve, clients are increasingly seeking clear, commercially focused and technically robust advice to unlock ambitious schemes, and we look forward to working with colleagues to help deliver high-profile projects and drive continued growth.”

The recruitment of Simms and Batterton brings the number of staff at TLT’s Manchester to more than 250. Of those, more than 30 are partners.
