Shakespeare Martineau targets region with Chalcraft hire

Stephen Chalcraft has joined law firm Shakespeare Martineau as partner to work on regeneration projects across the North West and the Midlands.

Chalcraft will work closely with the firm’s real estate, energy, infrastructure and planning lawyers, delivering projects across higher education, public and private sectors.

Chalcraft joins Shakespeare Martineau from Slater & Gordon Lawyers, formerly Pannone, after 10 years, where he was partner. Chalcraft was head of real estate practice for six years, and head of public sector practice for eight years. He was also on the executive board and a member of the firm’s working capital group. Prior to that he was a board member for Pinsent Masons’ business services division.

Andy Raynor, Shakespeare Martineau’s chief executive, said: “We have big ambitions nationally and Stephen’s strength and experience in structuring and delivering major projects will be a huge asset.”

Chalcraft said: “Shakespeare Martineau is an innovative and dynamic law firm and is committed to expanding in the North West and the Midlands with a focus on regeneration and complex projects. With the Northern Powerhouse and the Midlands Engine gaining significant momentum, it’s a great opportunity.”

Chalcraft has extensive experience in project managing public and private projects, and has worked on city centre regeneration schemes, transport and energy infrastructure projects, enterprise zones, and university campus development schemes both in the UK and abroad.

Shakespeare Martineau has 10 offices across the UK and internationally.
