Russell WBHO starts work on multi-million-pound Wilmslow care home

Senior living operator Care UK is anticipating a November 2024 opening date for Long Stone Manor, a 60-bedroom complex off Manchester Road.

KWL Architects designed the scheme, which will see the demolition of the two buildings at 107 and 109 Manchester Road to deliver a multi-million-pound care home on the 1.2-acre Wilmslow plot.

Contractor Russell WBHO has started on-site to construct the two-storey building, featuring a ground-floor cinema, café, and hair salon.

Visitors will be provided with a total of 31 car parking spaces, located between two landscaped garden areas.

The scheme was approved last November following an appeal. Cheshire East Council had refused the application in November 2020 on the grounds of over-development.

The Planning Inspectorate overruled the decision, satisfied that the development would not harm the character or appearance of the area. He also highlighted the significant need for care home spaces in the area.

Joshua Jones, development project manager for Care UK, said: “This impressive development reflects Care UK’s commitment to improving residential care in the region – we take great pride in the build quality of each home, carefully considering design and layout in order to improve the everyday experiences of those living in a care environment.

“This thoughtfully planned new home will live up to these standards, providing a high-quality home for older people in Wilmslow and surrounding areas.”

Martin Sage, project lead at Russell WBHO, added: “We’re delighted to be bringing our expertise to this exciting project, working alongside Care UK on their new, state-of-the-art care home in Wilmslow.

“Construction is off to a great start and we’re looking forward to reaching our next milestone in the coming months.”
