Regatta picks Fletcher – Rae for Trafford refurb

Architect Fletcher-Rae UK has been appointed by outdoor clothing retailer Regatta to design a new-look base in Trafford Park.

The £5m project will include the conversion and remodelling of the company's existing industrial building into office, showroom, design workshop, training facility and auditorium.

Fletcher-Rae will work alongside Manchester-based interior design studio, Space Invader. The project, which is due to begin on site at the end of 2013, will reunite Space Invader design director, Simon Millington, who worked for Andrew Rae at his former practice.

As well as its eponymous brand Regatta owns the Craghoppers, Dare2B and Hawkshead labels.

Fletcher-Rae was appointed following a competitive design and credentials competition, beating two other practices.

Bob Fletcher, joint managing director of Fletcher-Rae, said: "Regatta has established itself as a highly successful Manchester export and has ambitions to further continue and develop its global brands.

"This scheme will provide a cutting-edge facility that will support its future growth plans and transform the existing industrial site in Trafford Park."

Keith Black, owner of Regatta, which was recently awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise in the international trade category, commented: "This project marks the next phase in our journey, as we continue to invest in our infrastructure and more importantly in our people. We are planning to create a working environment that will attract the very best and brightest talent in the North West."
