Plans in for £18m Partington Sports Village

Upgrades to the hall, pool, gym, and changing facilities feature in the proposal, which has been lodged by Trafford Council.

Money towards the scheme has been provided to the authority through the government’s Levelling Up Fund.

A two-storey extension to the front of the facility will house a public cafe, fitness suite, and additional studio and community spaces.

It is hoped this will create what is described as a more welcoming ‘shop window’ from the Chapel Lane entrance, according to the planning documents.

Changing room facilities at nearby Cross Lane Park are also in line for improvement, as is the multi-use games area. A new 3G sports pitch is also proposed.

After consultation with the government’s community sport body Sport England, it has been agreed the current single-storey extension at the rear of the building be demolished to create a modern and accessible changing area.

According to the council, if the plans are granted, the facility is likely to be closed temporarily for the refurb to take place, potentially from this autumn.

Work is expected to take place throughout next year. It is hoped the facility would be ready to reopen in January 2026.

Kier and Ellis Williams Architects have led on the scheme’s design.

The project team also features Max Associates, ISG, Kier, Adept, Curtins, Tace, Land Studio, Jensen Hughes, JPP, Tree Solutions, and Hann Tucker Associates.

This project will not be of benefit to people who live in Partington. It would be better to spend the money improving infrastructure and services for people who live in the area.
