Planit-IE opens in Liverpool

The landscape design practice has opened an office at No. 8 Princes Dock, within the Liverpool Waters area for which it is the masterplan lead.

Pete Swift, joint managing director, told Place North West: “The practice has always been very active in Liverpool, and across our first two decades have been involved in some of the city’s most transformative projects including the restoration of Stanley Park; expansion of the Anfield Stadium and bringing back to life the former International Garden Festival site.

“This year has seen work on Liverpool Waters stepping up a gear, and as we enter the critical delivery phase, we are seeing our role as ‘guardians’ of this precious site span all our core services – from the reworking of the masterplan, through public realm and green space delivery; to ‘meanwhile’ programming and long-term strategy.

“Our visualisation team at Virtual Planit have just unveiled the latest set of digital imagery that captures the body of work our urban and landscape designers have been preparing over the last eighteen months. We feel that now is the time to have feet on the ground here.”

Swift will oversee the establishment of the studio, alongside Richard Line, director of Virtual Planit.

Ian Pollitt, Peel’s assistant project director for Liverpool Waters, said: “We are delighted to have Pete and his team establish a studio within Liverpool Waters. We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with them to bring forward our shared vision for the waterfront of our great city.”

Planit now has more than 50 staff working from three studios – Altrincham, London and Liverpool – and has recently been appointed as part of Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios’ team masterplanning the University of Liverpool’s campus. The firm is also working with Gower Street Estates on public realm at the Albert Dock.
