Places Matter to pick new design panel
Places Matter, the multi-agency design initiative for the North West, is looking to refresh its panel of critics with a new chairman and members.
The panel assesses schemes that are being proposed for strategic sites in the region. It offers "a free and impartial service to local authorities, developers and designers".
The role of chairman of the panel attracts pay of £450 a day for around 30 days' commitment a year. Panel members each receive £350 a day for a minimum of two days a year.
Currently, the panel has 35 members and is chaired by landscape architect Tom Lonsdale of Camlin & Lonsdale.
The recruitment drive will refresh the entire panel. All existing members will have to reapply if they wish to continue.
The initial contract is for two years starting in May 2009. Applications are sought from "people working in the fields of urban design, architecture, sustainable design, accessibility, landscape architecture, the historic environment, investment and development."
Places Matter is delivered by partners RIBA North West, CABE, NWDA, and English Heritage. The agency, set up in 2007, recently received £1.8m from the NWDA to safeguard its operation to 2012.
The deadline for applications is 16 February.
