Peel reaches Millers Quay finish line

Contractor Graham has completed work at the 500-home scheme within Wirral Waters, on behalf of the developer and its funding partner Pension Insurance Corporation.

The project has been delivered on time and on budget by Peel Waters, working with Graham and PIC, along with Wirral Council, with support from Homes England.

Representatives from each of the partners, in addition to local MP Dame Angela Eagle, gathered on Friday to mark completion. The partners said that £44m had been spent with local supply chain partners, with more than 1,000 pwople employed on the site – 75% of them from within a 30-mile radius.

The development includes 100 affordable homes.

Last summer, the first two blocks of Millers Quay – Copper Mill and Steam Yard – were completed, the 150 one- and two-bedroom apartments all letting within three months.

Now, the final 350 new homes within four blocks – Soda Factory, Salt House, Glaze Works and Lime Studio – are also complete, bringing the construction of Millers Quay to an end.

JLL is engaged as letting agent. Millers Quay sits within the Northbank neighbourhood at Wirral Waters. Plans for a new Sainsbury’s Local store at Millers Quay were approved by Wirral Council last month, to sit at the corner of Dock Road and Duke Street

Richard Mawdsley, development director at Wirral Waters, said: “The construction of Millers Quay has been driven by a really solid collaboration, with each partner instrumental in its delivery. We couldn’t have done it without the support, financial backing and expertise provided by our funding partner Pension Insurance Corporation plc, construction firm GRAHAM, Homes England, and Wirral Council.

“This is a very proud moment for Peel Waters and I’d like to thank the local community for being so supportive and patient throughout its construction, and to the incredible students at Wirral Met College for getting their hands dirty and helping us to learn and innovate throughout this monumental building project.

“We have all learnt so much and can be justifiably proud of what we have achieved together.”

Jess Adams, senior investment manager at PIC, added: “We are incredibly proud to mark the completion of this transformative project, which signals the beginning of a new era for an area that was once considered unsuitable for housing.

“Millers Quay is a true testament to the impact of strong partnerships.”

Shame the surrounding area hasn’t been completed

By Jim Miller

The blocks of flats look the part , but who is responsible for clearing the mess on the land next to them, or is it going to be left like that like the waste land by the college on the dock Rd after that was finished .
