Green light for 64-bed Preston care home

Glenholme Wrightcare’s scheme at the former Baffitos restaurant on Navigation Way is now being broken down into two phases with the council’s permission.

Preston Council unanimously supported the 1.7-acre development at its planning committee meeting on 10 June. Prior approval had been granted in January, but this latest application divided construction into two phases. The first phase focuses on the care home, while the second concerns 16 supported living apartments.

Social care provider Glenholme Wrightcare asked for the phased approach after being unable to commission the supported living apartments. The company did, however, have an operator arranged for the care home and thus wanted to commence construction on that project without delay.

The care home will be stepped across two and three storeys. It is designed for those with dementia and will have a dining area, quiet room, lounge and patio. A car park, landscaped grounds and servicing and waste collection area will also take space on the site.

The site for the supported living apartments and their separate building will be seeded with grass until construction can begin. Those apartments will be geared towards adults with learning difficulties.

Glenholme Wrightcare is set to demolish the old Baffitos building, partially destroyed by a fire in December, as part of the scheme.

Smith & Love Planning Consultants handled the application for Glenholme Wrightcare. IBI Group is the architect.

Preston Council also gave unanimous approval to a scheme to build a new chapel and 14 homes at the site of St Martins Chapel on Broadway. The old chapel and a Guides Hut will be demolished as part of the development. Paddock Johnson Partnership handled planning for Broughton St John Baptist PCC on the project.
